about us

we are a community from all walks of life, created in the image of God, pursuing the hope of Jesus, where the vulnerable are held at our center.

We exist to seek God, pursue truth, in an atmosphere of love,
where judgement is left at the door.

Metro Hub has it’s own website - metrohub.ca →

The Metro Hub is an event rental venue for public and private events where the funds raised are used to help support the services of Metro Community. Our community also meets here on Sundays for church.

metro church

We consider “church” to be much more than our Sunday gathering. It is the community. It’s the way we all live and listen to every voice. It’s the way we choose to treat others. It’s the different groups we have where people from all walks of life find meaningful community and healing. If you’re interested in finding community, visit our events page for more details →

If you are interested in joining us on Sundays, we meet as a larger community at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM in the Metro Hub (1265 Ellis St). There is brunch served in between, at 10:15 AM.  These services are live-streamed on YouTube →

  • our mission

We exist to seek God and pursue truth in an atmosphere of love, where judgement is left at the door.

    our vision

We are a community from all walks of life, created in the image of God, pursuing the hope of Jesus, where the vulnerable are held at our center.

    our values

    Our values include…

Hope - Jesus is the way that leads to hope, the truth in confused times, and He offers us abundant life. His love is transformative and creates a sense of awe. We trust Jesus and His word and pursue Him through prayer, worship, and Holy communion.

Humanity - Every person is created in the image of God and is sacred. We are all worthy of His love and the love of His family. We exist to speak identity and value to a hurting and lonely world.

Dignity - We exist to elevate the marginalized and most vulnerable. Every person has intrinsic value, is worthy of extravagant dignity and the right to the basic necessities. We seek to be intentionally present and honour everyone’s voice.

Community - God Himself is community and invites us into radical and humble relationships. We desire to be an inclusive community that enjoys each other’s presence as we intentionally foster deep relationships through shared meals, creating sacred spaces and serving together.

Service - We are a community that seeks justice and loves mercy. We desire that every person contributes and uses their valued gifts to advance God’s mercy in our community and beyond. We desire to be an integral component of the fabric of our city that builds community partnerships and fights for justice.

Arts - A robust expression of the Arts is vital in a healthy community. We are committed to individual and corporate creativity in expressing our worship to God, and in communicating our life stories to those around us.

MORE: We exist to seek God and pursue truth in an atmosphere of love, where judgement is left at the door. We believe God made all people in His image therefore every person is worthy of dignity despite their life choices and through His Son, Jesus Christ. He draws all people to Himself for affirmation, healing and community. Our mission is to daily cultivate and live these beliefs and values in ourselves and in the hurting, alienated, and marginalised people in the city of Kelowna. To look for Jesus in each other (and in the most unexpected people) and what it means to create a sense of belonging and to be a place of hope and hospitality to one another.

  • Our community prayer and benediction are important to setting the tone of our approach to life. Take a read and let them speak for themselves.

    Community Prayer

May the God who is community
Be with us as we seek to be a community

    May God bless our dreams
And may God shatter our dreams
May God help us to be real

And to find depth in weakness and brokenness
May God help us to face and grow through conflict
Rather than pretend by being nice

May we look at each other through the soft eyes of respect and compassion
Rather than the hard eyes of criticism and condemnation
May God help us let go of control And the need to fix one another

May God help us discover we are needy in our own souls
And give attention to our own hearts

May God shape us to be his people, until we resemble Christ
Who is full of mercy toward the wicked and the ungrateful.

    Amen.

and here’s our benediction which we read at the end our services

    The Franciscan Blessing

May God bless you with discomfort,
    at easy answers, half-truths,
    and superficial relationships
    so that you may live
    deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger
    at injustice, oppression,
    and exploitation of people,
so that you may work for
    justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless you with tears,
to shed for those who suffer pain,
    rejection, hunger, and war,
so that you may reach out your hand
    to comfort them and
to turn their pain to joy.

    And may God bless you
    with enough foolishness
    to believe that you can
make a difference in the world,
    so that you can do
what others claim cannot be done,
    to bring justice and kindness
to all our children and the poor.

    Amen

We at Metro did not write either of these, but we adopted them into our community as a way to set our hearts in the right direction, and to create unity in our approach wherever we might find ourselves, whether that be volunteering at Metro Central, serving coffee at church, taking part in one of our community groups, in our homes, on the streets, or anywhere we find ourselves.

meet our team

We have an incredible team—each person uniquely dedicated to serving and loving our community. Some work full-time, others part-time, but we are most certainly - a team!

despite the apparent affluence of our city, many people living in kelowna are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of being homeless.

  • It means that within a 30-60 day period of losing a steady income stream, an “at risk” individual cannot reasonably afford rent or secure accommodation and will be forced to use shelters or sleep rough.

As a community, Metro is committed to working alongside the City of Kelowna and numerous other agencies to help some of the most vulnerable among us
